SILMAS Final Conference: June 27, 2012
SIL Austria Meeting: June 28 to 29, 2012

Alpine lakes in the focus. The SILMAS (Sustainable Instruments for Lakes Management in the Alpine Space) Final Conference and the SIL Austria Meeting took place in Pörtschach am Wörthersee in June 2012.

The provincial government of Carinthia organized the Final Conference of the Alpine Space project SILMAS together with the biannual meeting of the Austrian Society for Limnology (SIL-Austria). The combination of these events was an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on scientific and applied research on alpine lakes and sustainable water resource management. 

The SILMAS partners presented the results of three years work on education and sustainable developement, conflict solving tools and consequences of climate change for human activities.

Future changes in the Alpine climate (average temperatures, extreme temperatures, rainfall patterns, etc.) will affect the catchment area of lakes. Political and scientific representatives shared experiences and exchanged adjustment strategies during a panel discussion. The members of the SIL-Austria Meeting presented results of scientific and applied investigations on water ecological issues.
