The Grünsee is situated on the south eastern outskirts of Villach. It is part of the larger gravel-covered dead ice grounds of former times. The Grünsee represents a collection of groundwater, without inflow or runoff. The direct surrounding of the lake is not populated.
Pristine water. The relatively steeply falling down slopes are characteristic for this lake. So in the shore zone only a natural belt of vegetation with wet plants of a few meters could develop. The Grünsee belongs to the few natural and untouched lakes of Carinthia.
