General Description

Bathing and fishing. The Flatschacher See, situated near Feldkirchen, belongs to the popular leisure time lakes in this region. This bathing lake, about 3 ha large and 3, 4 m deep, is dammed up by an embankment in the south. The other shore zones are occupied by a distinct deposition- and underwater vegetation. A little watercourse that is coming from of the north out of an agriculturally used catchment area and that has waters rich in nutrients, feeds the lake. These nutrients caused a high population of floating algae. To reduce this addition of nutrients in 1986 they constructed a pre- settling bank, the Flatschacher Vorteich, by raising a barrier. It should catch all the nutrients coming into the lake through the inflow and so improve the water quality.

Landscape protection area. The Flatschacher See belongs to the 272 ha large Landscape protection area Flatschacher See – Krahkogel (LGBl. Nr. 79/1970).
